National School Counseling Week is Feb. 5-9
What does a school counselor do? VPS’ school counselors respond to the immediate social and emotional needs of students and proactively teach lessons on topics such as managing emotions, setting goals, establishing relationships and making responsible decisions. School counselors also work to ensure that all students have access to information about college and career opportunities that will inform their educational choices and help them achieve their goals. And VPS school counselors are leaders who use data-based decision-making to support the academic missions of their schools.
Across the United States, student-counselor ratios are about 491-to-1. In VPS, that ratio is 350-to-1. Counselors are vital to the success of students and schools. Thank you, counselors!
