Update April 22: New grading rules for high school courses
This is a challenging time for all of us. We miss seeing our students.
Your school and our district are working diligently to create a plan to continue instruction using printed learning materials, phone contacts, email messages, technology-based virtual instruction or a combination of those methods to meet student learning needs.
After spring break, we intend to provide an online/remote learning environment that is balanced and realistic in the expectations for all students. We recognize that it is important to strike a balance between academic content and time on technology devices. Students need a routine that provides consistency in their daily schedule.
We are committed to offering a variety of learning experiences and a reasonable amount of time for them to be completed at home. We also want students to engage in independent reading, physical movement, the arts and other enrichment activities that do not rely on technology.
We will share updates and additional resources as they become available. Beginning Monday, April 6, your child’s teacher(s) will communicate with students and families. On Wednesday, April 8, parents will receive a digital link to their school’s HUB. Each HUB will contain a plan for student learning, including lessons, resources and a suggested schedule.
Remote learning expectations:
- Two hours of instruction daily in core content
- Recommended 20 minutes of reading per day
- Recommended 20 minutes of physical activity
Grading expectations during this time:
- Students will be assessed as meeting standard or not meeting standard
- Increased standards attainment will be integrated into cumulative grade upon return
I know you may have questions. Please do not hesitate to reach out by email to your teacher or principal. Vancouver Public Schools continues to provide updates as new information becomes available.
