Eighth grader William Clark, a student at Discovery Middle School, recently served as a page in the Washington state House of Representatives. He was sponsored by Rep. Monica Stonier.
Pages’ responsibilities over their weeklong appointments include presenting the flags and distributing amendments on the House floor. They also support legislative operations, receive civics instruction, draft their own bills and participate in mock committee hearings.
Serving as a page was not Clark’s first foray into the legislative world, however. Two year earlier he advocated on behalf of the Hunger-Free Students’ Bill of Rights Act, which became law in June 2018.
