Beyond the school day

Extracurricular activities are an important part of life at Discovery. We encourage all students to participate. Available activities include:

  • Student leadership/Associated Student Body
    • ASB Student Council
  • Math club
    • Math Club meets every Thursday during lunch – any lunch – in room 308. During our time together we work math problems, eat lunch and then compare answers for the problems. We use the problems found at Mathcounts.org and are looking to compete as a school team in February. Any student who is interested in math is welcome to come join the fun on Thursdays.
  • Memory book club
    • If you are interested in photography, art, print and computer graphic design, or just helping to insure we have a fantastic yearbook this year, join the Memory Book Club! Come and help us capture the moments and memories of the 2016-17 school year at Discovery! If you are interested, please see Ms. Janis. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30p-4:30p. Click here for the application!

    • After school Productions
      • The first school production that we are doing this year is a play called ‘Novio Boy’ by Gary Soto. This play will performed at Family, Community, and Culture Night, which is an event that Discovery hosts every year. This production will be of a much smaller scale than the spring school play, with fewer performers, actors, rehearsals, and audience members.
Though this production is open to anyone in the entire school, I am hoping for students who can speak some Spanish, as well as English, as all characters in the play will have some lines in Spanish. Auditions for this play are on Wednesday, November 11th, which is just about a month from now. Auditions will consist of ‘cold reads’ (students reading) from the script.
Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in, and I can provide you with more specific information.
Every student who intends to audition will need to pick up, and fill out an audition packet from Room 130. Audition packets will be available on Monday.
      • More information on the Spring School Play to follow!
  • Intramurals

All Extracurricular activities require the purchase of a $10 ASB Card (one time, good all school year). In addition, please note that certain band, orchestra, choir, theater, club and leadership activities each require payment of an Activity Fee of up to $20 to participate.
