Discovery welcomes area middle schools to the LCRMEA Band Festival!Discovery Middle School will host the Lower Columbia River Music Educators Association Middle School Band festival on March 24, 2010. We are looking forward to this wonderful opportunity to share our facilities with others and to get to hear some great music. This band festival is a time for middle school musicians to compete not only against other schools but also with themselves to improve on scores that their school received last year. The competition is great and the music is wonderful! Thank you Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation!Discovery music students got a huge surprise from the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation and the Clark County Amphitheater. $25,000 worth of new and refurbished music instruments for both our band and orchestra. Vancouver Mayor Timothy Leavitt, Vancouver Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steven Webb and Clark County Commissioners Tom Mielke, Marc Boldt and Steve Stuart were on-hand at Discovery to present the school with the surprise donation. Working with sponsors such as The Amphitheater at Clark County, The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation donates both new and refurbished instruments to schools and after-school music programs that lack the resources to keep up with equipment loss due to attrition, depreciation and wear over time and to accommodate students on waiting lists or who have to share instruments. This enables more students to participate and to experience a quality music education. More information can be found at: www.mhopus.org
